In 2012, the Peace Corps will commemorate 20 years of promoting peace and friendship in Ukraine. From Honolulu, Hawaii and San Diego, California, I am now here Luhansk, Ukraine
We help the people of interested countries to meet their needs for trained men and women Peace Corps Volunteers have 3 important goals We help promote a better understanding of Americans We promote a better understanding of Ukraine to Americans
All PEACE CORPS VOLUNTEERS ARE American Citizens, 18 or older, and have a university/college degree. All have a college/university degree. Some have very special skills. Some are mid-career. Some do not want to “retire”.
THE APPLICATION PROCESS • +/- 13,000 applicants annually! • 8000 nominated • Paperwork of nominees must clear • Placement by 20 different categories, invitations from host countries, and departure dates • +/- 5000 accept the invitation • Departure
WHAT DO PEACE CORPS VOLUNTEERS DO? EDUCATION The largest area of need as identified by those countries asking for Peace Corps assistance. YOUTH DEVELOPMENT Volunteers work with at-risk youth ages 10 to 25, helping communities develop programs to assist young people. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT Community and needs assessments Focus on community development projects for education, youth development, health and HIV/AIDS, the environment

Ukraine was the first successor nation of the Soviet Union to invite the Peace Corps to establish a program on its territory.
In response to Ukraine's expressed needs, Peace Corps Volunteers work in the areas: • Community Development • English Language Education • Youth Development Currently in Ukraine 339 volunteers Since 1992 2045 cumulative volunteers
