Title I Information •The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires that each Title I School hold an Annual Meeting of Title I parents for the purpose of… –Informing you of your school’s participation in Title I –Explaining the requirements of Title I –Explaining your rights as parents to be involved

  3. What is Title I •Being a Title I school means receiving federal funding (Title I dollars) to supplement the school’s existing programs. These dollars are used for… –Identifying students experiencing academic difficulties and providing timely assistance to help these student’s meet the State’s challenging content standards. –Purchasing supplemental staff/programs/materials/supplies –Conducting parental Involvement meetings/trainings/activities –Recruiting/Hiring/Retaining Highly Qualified Teachers •Being a Title I school also means parental involvement and parents’ rights.

CIP •The CIP is your school’s Continuous Improvement Plan and includes: –A Needs Assessment and Summary of Data –Goals and Strategies to Address Academic Needs of Students –Professional Development Needs –Coordination of Resources/Comprehensive Budget –The School’s Parental Involvement Plan •You, as Title I parents, have the right to be involved in the development of this plan.

  5. Highly Qualified Teachers •Our school’s present status of Highly Qualified Teachers •Notification to parents regarding teachers not meeting NCLB’s requirements for Highly Qualified • •How parents are notified

  6. Bell Schedule Bell schedule is in the Student Handbook 1st bell is at 7:32 - students should be walking to their lockers or classrooms 2nd bell is at 7:36 - students should report to class 3rd bell is at 7:40 - this is the tardy bell!!! School ends at 2:50

  7. Check out • Only for doctors’ appointments or family emergencies • Preferred after 11:30

  8. Bus Riders Check out the table in the H.S. Gym to learn about your bus number and meet your bus driver

  9. Car Riders • ALL car riders need to report to the elementary library to obtain a new number. (Even if you had one last year) • Please don’t arrive before 7:00. • School will dismiss at 2:50. Please don’t get into the car line too early as this clogs up the front of the school and would present problems if there happened to be an emergency.

  10. Student Handbook 2014-15 All Students will receive the Student Handbook 2014-15 on August 13, 2014. Parents and Students please check the following: • Attendance • Conduct codes and disciplinary actions • Dress Code • School Calendar • Forms to sign

  11. 2014-15 CHANGES • DRESS CODE • ACADEMIC PICNIC • LUNCH PRICES: • STUDENTS $2.50 • FACULTY $3.00 • VISITOR $3.50 • BREAKFAST $1.25 • REDUCED LUNCH DID NOT CHANGE

  12. Lockers are assigned and available. Locker Fee $5 Lockers

  13. 7th period will be commonly referred to as Enrichment period. Enrichment

  14. ENRICHMENT The purpose: is to meet students’ needs in different areas • Announcements • Advisement • Make Up Test • Intervention in Math and English • Clubs or Enrichment

  17. Parents can actively check on students’ progress, attendance and discipline via INOW. You need to pick up your PIN# from the OMS office PERSONALLY. INOW HOME PORTAL ACCESS

Schedules - Bring your schedule with you Wednesday • Supplies - The pre purchased supplies will be given to the students Wednesday. • Backpacks - No backpacks in the classrooms • Binder - You must have it with you in every class • P.E. - Purchase a P.E. uniform during P.E. class. Recommended you pay for a P.E. locker. • Parent Conferences - E-mail the teacher to schedule a conference. • Homework - Check each teacher’s website. • Quarterly Final Exams - Comprehensive Semester • Detention - Morning detention in the middle school

  21. In eighth grade, students will take on more responsibility as they prepare for high school. They will be expected to: • Write down their assignments and meet due dates • Avoid absences and take care of make-up work without reminders • Monitor their grades through INOW • Understand the relationship between their own actions and their academic success • Be good role models and peer mentors for OMS Responsibility and Leadership
