Introduction The product that we designed is a handphone with the model Nokia 8310. Its dimension is 97 x 43 x 19mm. And its weight is about 84g. It is very light and small. Therefore, it is very handy and easy to bring. Besides that, the cover of the phone can be changed easily to the colour you prefer. This phone contains of 8 different parts. The first part is the front and back cover. The second part is the inner body of the phone. The third is the screen and speaker of the phone. The forth part is the keypad. The fifth is the keyboard. The sixth is the sim card holder. While the seventh is the sim card. And the last is the battery of the phone. All of parts is drawn using extrude, round tool, chamfer, mirror, and many more.
First Part - Main Body • It acts as the base for the whole model. • It consists of the main circuit, the sockets • for the battery, sim-card, sim-card holder and • the charger. So it is the main part of the • handphone. • Most of the part are done by extrude • command. • Some datum planes are added to make • the modeling job easier. • It is made of plastic-like material to reduce the • weight of the whole body. • At the meantime, plastic is cheaper, so it can • reduce the costs of production.
Second Part – Front Cover • This is the front cover of the whole model. • The commands used to create this part • consist of extrude, round tool, chamfer • tool and mirror. • As usual, new datum planes are included • to make the modeling job easier. • Same as the main body, it is made of • plastic-like material so that it is light. • It is made together with some percentage • of transparency so that it looks more • stylish and user can see the inner part.
Third Part – Back Cover • This is the back cover of the model. • It will cover the back part of the model which • sim-card, sim-card holder and battery are • placed in the empty space provided. • It acts as a protection to the back part of the • main body since there is some sensitive part • at the back part of the main body such as • sim-card, battery and circuit. • It is drawn by using extrude, round tool and • chamfer tool. • It is a part of the the front cover so it is made • similar as the front cover.
Fourth Part – Key Pad • This is the key pad of the model. • It acts as the button for users to input number, • typing sms, choose the function of the • handphone and others. • It is drawn by using the command such as extrude, • and round tool. • The upper plane of the buttons are made of curve • lines so it looks more stylish. • It is made of plastic-like material which is soft so • that it is flexible to be pressed down when the user • is pressing the button and act as a keypad. • Numbers, symbols and alphabets are extruded on • each of the buttons to indicate the function of each • button.
Fifth Part – Keyboard • This is the keyboard of the handphone. • It acts as the base for the keypad which each • tiny hole on the keyboard represents each • function. • Each tiny hole consists of a cathode part and an • anode part which is not connected. When the • keypad above it is pressed, both anode and • cathode will get connected, the particular current is • allowed to flow thru and the circuit board inside it will • figure it out whether which function will be executed. • It acts as the base for the handphone screen too. • It is simply made just by extrude command. • It is made of metal-like material since it needs to be • hard and long-lasting So metal is chosen.
Sixth Part - Screen • This is the screen of the handphone. • It displays all the output of the handphone • such as the name list, the menu and others. • There is a speaker on the upper part of this • screen. • The speaker will act as the output device of • the voice so that the user can hear the voice • of the caller. • It is made simply by using extrude too.
Seventh Part – Screen Cover • This is the screen cover of the handphone. • It acts as the protective cover for the • handphone screen since the handphone • screen is very fragile and delicate. • It is, too, simply made by the extrude • command. • It is made of a transparent plastic-like • material so the screen’s display can be • shown thru this screen cover and user is • able to read the output of the screen. • The front plane of the cover is made by • curve line so that it looks curve. • The curve plane reflect the light from • different angle of direction so that it is easier • for user to read the output of the screen.
Eighth Part – Sim-Card • This is the sim-card of the handphone. • It is not originally from the handphone, • but without it the handphone will not work. • Each sim-card has it’s own identity so that • user will get his very own phone numbers. • It also connects the handphone to certain • network such as maxis, or digi, • so that the handphone can actually work • as a phone as a communication tool. • It is simply made by extrude command and • round tool. • It is made of plastic-like material as the base • and the chip by metal-like material. • It is a very small part compared to the model.
Ninth Part – Sim-card Holder • This is the sim-card holder. • Since the sim-card is a very small part • and yet it is such an important part, so • a special part is made to hold it tightly • on its position so that it will not get lost. • It also makes sure that the chip on the • sim-card and the receiver on the back • side of the main body are always so that • connecting so that the handphone can • always detects the sim-card and works • properly. • It is drawn by using a few steps of extrude • command and some round tools. • It is made of plastic-like material since it • is just used to hold the sim-card so it does • not need any strength. So plastic is chosen • to lighten the overall weight and reduce the • cost.
Tenth Part - Battery • This is the battery of the handphone. • It acts as the power resource for the • handphone. • It is a 3.6V rechargeable Li-ion battery • so whenever the battery is exhausted, it • can be recharged endless time. • It is made by using a few steps of extrude • command. • The cover of the battery is made by • plastic-like material which is very hard • so that the inner parts of the battery • are always being protected.
Assembly Parts (1) • So finally it comes to assembly. • In order to assemble all the parts, • we have to connect them to each • other one by one, and in the • correct order, so the real model • will be produced. • It is a complicated step and we • need to be very careful during the • assembling process. • It is the most important time too • since any failure will be shown in this • step such as the wrong measurement • of those parts. • Even though a little mistake will cause • the assembling process imperfect and • the fully constrained condition will not be • achieved.
Assembly Parts (2) • Basically 2 commands are used • to assemble those parts. • i) Align. • ii) Mate. • Align is used when we wish to • make two different planes parallel • to each other so that we can • connect those parts perfectly and • accurately. • The command ‘mate’ is always used • when we wish the two faces touching • each others, in other words, to • stick the two faces together and the • gap between the two faces is adjustable.
Assembly Parts (3) • So by using the 2 commands • we are able to assemble them • into a one fine part, which is the • final model, our handphone. • Some rendering setup is done • to the final model such as the • room setting, light setting, • perspective setting, colour and • appearance setting. • These effects help the model to • look nicer and attractive so that • it will attract the consumer .
The Exploded View • This is the exploded view of the complete model ( done by using rendering setting).
