Orientation II • Wednesday, August 28th • Two Sessions depending on your child’s teacher • Rooms 6, 10, 11, 13 @ 9:45am- 10:45am • Rooms 7, 8, 9, 14 @ 11:45am-12:45am • Students and parents meet teachers • Students take a ride on the bus • Parents/guardians receive more general information • Open House in October – discussion of curriculum and classroom specific information
Transportation • Index cards on tables • Includes Name, Bus #, Address, Bus Stop • Five buses used for AM and PM pick-up • Early childhood buses are for K students only
Transportation (cont.) • Recommendation for first few weeks - be OUTSIDE at the bus stop at 8:10 • Requests for changes should be put in writing and will be passed along for review • Buses may be late/sporadic the first few weeks of school • Allow a few weeks for a pattern to emerge regarding pick up and drop off times
Transportation (cont.) • Students will receive bus tags on the first day of school • Any change in schedule needs to be put in writing to the teacher • Changing buses is not permitted • An authorized adult must be present for drop-off at the designated stop
Transportation (cont.) • All drivers are CORI checked and have updated licenses • Times can vary due to inclement weather, absences, dismissals, traffic, etc. • We will do our best to keep you informed of changes/delays • A consistent schedule alleviates anxiety and separation issues for your child • Please review and emphasize bus rules with your child on a regular basis • School will reinforce safety throughout the year through safety programs w/Wilmington Police Department
Building Safety • Kindergarten hours - 8:50-2:05 • Buzzer system with video monitoring • All doors will be locked throughout the school day • Staff will have access using a swipe card system • Parents/guardians will need to ring the doorbell • All visitors must sign in and obtain a visitors pass when entering the building • Please call in all absences
Building Safety (cont.) • Please inform the office when emergency card information changes • Connect5 system • Monthly fire drills • Lock down drills • Implementation of ALICE protocol • Evacuation drill
Arrival and Dismissal • Upon arrival students will proceed to the gym and sit by classroom with teachers on duty until it is time to head to their classroom. • Car riders will be dropped off by an adult to a WW staff member at the door next to the parking lot. • Car rider drop off begins at 8:30 • Park in the parking lot on the right or in back • Wait with your child until the teachers on duty are present • First two weeks all staff is on duty for arrival and dismissal
Arrival and Dismissal (cont.) • Parking is available on the right hand side of the building and in the back during arrival and dismissal times • Please enter the driveway on the right and exit on the driveway on the gym side • Please remember that it is unlawful to pass buses while they are loading and unloading
Arrival and Dismissal (cont.) • Car riders will be escorted to the front door at dismissal and released to an authorized adult • Parent/guardians are asked to wait outside the building under the overhang at dismissal • Proper identification is required for dismissal of students
Lunch • Lunch is served daily • Lunch prices can be found online • $2.10 Lunch • $.50 Milk • $.50 Dessert • Free and reduced lunch information and applications are available online and in the front office • Gluten Free menu is now available online for students with a documented gluten allergy • Students will receive a temporary lunch card and once they have pictures taken they will have a picture lunch card
Lunch (cont.) • Staff collects cards daily so cards are not misplaced • Payments can be made on-line or checks can also be dropped off in the kitchen. Please visit www.wilmington.k12.ma.us to read more in depth information on food services and POS system • The online system allows you to check when your child is buying lunch, refill the balance, and restrict if necessary
Lunch (cont.) • A peanut free table is open to all students who have allergies as well as students who have purchased a lunch • All school lunches served are peanut/tree nut-free • Classrooms are peanut free • Use list • Check/send in labels
General Health Information • A copy of all immunizations must be passed in to Mrs. Y as soon as possible. If records are not complete, your child will not be able to begin school on September 3rd. • If your child has special health needs, please arrange an appointment with Mrs. Y to discuss your child’s needs. • If you give your child any medication at home, please alert the school nurse that day. • Celebrations/classroom activities will be free of food. Please contact your child’s teacher before sending anything into the classroom.
