An innovator is a person who brings • something new to an environment. • You are all innovators. Through • community service and leading by example, you can have a positive impact in your school and neighborhood.
As an “Options Scholar” you have the ability to change the perception of how people view your school. A Scholar is a learned person (who by long study has gained mastery in one or more disciplines As a scholar who has gained mastery in academic areas over the years and an Innovator at Options, what type of change can you bring about?
Expectations: • 1. All coats, heavy jackets and hats should be left in your lockers until the end of the day. • 2. Eating food, including sunflower seeds, candy, chewing gum, and drinking in the classroom are prohibited. • 3. Use of language in the classroom should be appropriate at all times (no profanity or vulgarity). • 4. Get permission before leaving your seat. • 5. Raise your hand to speak and use your inside voice. • 6. Wrestling, hitting, kicking, throwing things and other forms of horseplay are not permitted. • 7. Leave all electronic devices (MP3s, videogames, cameras, phones, etc.) at home or it will be collected before entering the building and returned at the end of the day. • . • 8. Speak kindly and respectfully to everyone (“joning” or “frying” is not acceptable).

Homework Routine *Detailed course of action to be followed regularly; a standard procedure. Current Event Article Reports Four Day Assignment • (Day One) Scholars will be expected to cut or print out and turn in a current event article from a newspaper, magazine or website related to a social studies theme, currently being taught in class. • (Day Two) Scholars will read the article two times and during the second reading they will underline key points.
Homework Routine * Detailed course of action to be followed regularly; a standard procedure. Current Event Article Reports Four Day Assignment • (Day Three) Scholars will use the headline and key points they underlined in their article to write two paragraphs. The first will be a guided introduction and the second will consist of a summary using their key points. • (Day Four) Scholars will highlight five words in their article and define them in their own words. Scholars will be chosen randomly to present their “Current Event Report”
