  1. Stop and Jot • A reminder of the rules… • Each category I discuss will have a question that you will comment on. • “I don’t know” and “No comment” are not acceptable answers. • *After each slide, we will stop to discuss our answers. Don’t forget to take notes on the observations that your partner makes!

  2. Look at the picture to the right. What kind of man do you think he is/ was? What adjectives would you think describe him?

  3. Any guesses about this man? (Hint: look closely– there may be some clues!) What elements of the picture tell you that he was probably important?

  4. Last one! What about this man? What can you speculate about him? What clues lead you to your guess?

  5. Vladimir Ilyich Lenin FUN FACT! Born in 1870, Lenin was one of the leading revolutionary thinkers of the 20th century who led the Bolshevik take-over of power in Russia in 1917.

  6. Joseph Stalin FUN FACT! Became dictator of the Soviet Union after the death of Lenin. Stalin’s reign was one of terror and suffering, but he also played a big role in the defeat of Nazism in WWII.

  7. Leon Trotsky FUN FACT! Lost out in a power struggle for leadership with Joseph Stalin after Lenin’s death and was assassinated while in exile.
