Introduction • A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step • What if that step is in the wrong direction? • If you don't know where you are going, how will you know when you get there? • Universal Design helps clarify the journey • Examples of Universal Design • CEN Workshop Agreement on Training for ICT Professionals

  3. What is CEN? • One of 3 official European Standards Bodies • Non-profit body set up under Belgian law • Provides platform to develop Standards and other concensus Documents • 30 National Members • Main Objective is to remove barriers to free trade

  4. Standards • Document which is designed for common and repeated use • Rules, Guidelines or Definitions • Consensus document amongst many stakeholders • Industry • Consumers • Regulators • Approved by recognised body

  5. What is a CEN Workshop Agreement? • Consensus based Specification • Drawn up in Workshops • Open to anyone to get involved • Low Development Cost • Short Development Time • Typically used for ICT products or services

  6. CWA for Training of ICT Professionals Why it is required • Benefits of Universal Design are being recognised • Little formal training available • Avoid fragmentation • Ensure quality of Courses • Ensure training is mainstreamed • Promote robust and transferable skills
