The HostofCanterbury Tales By Gabrielle O’Neill
As you can see I am: • Very striking • Manly • I have bright beautiful eyes • I have a slightly wide girth
I once organized a pilgrimage to the Cathedral in Canterbury. I took 29 guests from my Inn. We gathered the night before for an evening of dinner, drinks, and merrymaking. We were set to leave first thing in the morning.
Among the travelers were a Yeoman, a Prioress, a Monk, a Knight, and a Friar. There were many other but I have kept in touch with these people ever since our trip.
To make the trip enjoyable I devised a sort of game that would require everyone on the pilgrimage to tell 2 stories on the way to Canterbury and 2 more on the return trip. The man who tells the best tale will be given supper, paid by all the others , when we return to my tavern. I will be the only judge
I am a very clever man. I am also full of ideas and persuasive. Therefore I was able to set up a game which would allow me to go along on a pilgrimage and take charge of the entire trip. I devised a game which would cause everyone to return to my tavern and spend their money to wine and dine and perhaps even stay the night at my inn.
