Nation-master.com, a source for vast compilation of data from such sources as the CIA World Fact book, UN, and OECD reports that: “As of 2012 30.6% of Americans are considered to be obese.”
I believe that:“Fitness should be a key part of everyone’s lives”
IMPORTANCE: • A lack of exercise in ones life can lead to weight gain and an unhealthy lifestyle which can cause health issues later in life but not as late as you’d think. -Something Awful
Importance (continued) • Visceral fat is fat that becomes entrapped deep inside your abdomen. Visceral fat is toxic to ones health and can cause such health problems as: -LiveStrong
Importance Examples • .heart disease • .gallbladder problems • .can promote insulin resistance • which can lead to diabetes and cancer. –(Livestrong)
Reasons most people don’t follow a fitness program:. • Some may say that obesity will never happen to them • That exercise isn’t needed to stay healthy • That exercise can’t fit in there schedule • That it would take too much effort to live healthier
Reasons why to Live Fit1. A regular fitness program can cause an increase in the immune system decreasing cases of illness-(New Medicine)
Reasons to Live Fit • 2. Exercise programs can cause an increase in the mood and can cause an overall feeling of happiness and confidence in ones self.-(New Medicine)
Reasons to Be Fit • 3. Living fit is known to expand the life expectancy of a given person –(New Medicine)
Argument I • A regular fitness program can cause an increase in the immune system • “All you need to do is walk for a half hour every day or find time to hit the gym a few times every week. By speeding up the cells in your immune system that fight off bacteria, you can get healthier in no time.” –FitDay
Argument I (Cont) • .Some may say that there is no proof of fitness effecting the immune system to an effective extent.
Argument I part II • “The most exciting finding in the field of exercise immunology is that positive immune changes take place during moderate exercise. People who exercise at a moderate level experience fewer days of sickness from the common cold and other Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI). And less competitive athletes and people following lower key exercise regimens have enhanced immune reactions to infection.” –Roy Stevenson
Argument II • Exercise on a regular basis can cause an increase in mood • “Gain confidence”
Argument II (cont) • Take your mind off worries. Exercise is a distraction that can get you away from the cycle of negative thoughts that feed anxiety and depression.” –Mayo Clinic” • The counter-argument would be that working out is stressful and just causes more stress by needing to worry about keeping on top of it.
Argument II part II • “The word "exercise" may make you think of running laps around the gym. But exercise includes a wide range of activities that boost your activity level to help you feel better. Certainly running, lifting weights, playing basketball and other fitness activities that get your heart pumping can help. But so can gardening, washing your car, or strolling around the block and other less intense activities. “-Mayo Clinic
Argument III • Living a fit and healthy lifestyle can expand the life span of the average person.
Argument III (cont) • Recent studies show “key researchers found weight in relation to height (body mass index (BMI) = weight/height2) was twice as likely to shorten the survival of the elderly when low (BMI less than 18.5) than high (above 24.0). This increased to nine times more likely when combined with limited physical function.”-Machines Like Us • Some may say that exercise isn’t needed to stay healthy
Argument III part II • Studies show “Even small changes involving modest regular physical aerobic and strengthening activities for several days a week could make a substantial difference in health outcomes for the elderly.”-Machines Like Us
Argument III part III • .Muscle atrophy is a major problem with the elderly as with physical ability, exercise can preserve these abilities and functions through ones golden years.
Conclusion • I have gone over just a small fraction of the benefits of exercise and having a healthy lifestyle • Proof has been given to back these arguments through various respected websites • This evidence has been researched, supported, and proven time and time again to be true and should be accepted as a fact of life. • Please consider incorporating fitness into your lifestyle and start living a healthier life • Enjoy Life!
