Colorado State Dance Standards • 1.3 Perform with expression and artistry • Students can: Demonstrate an understanding of the movement elements of space, time, and energy when performing in dance. • Inquiry Question: How does a dancer’s expression of space, time, and energy change as his or her technical abilities increase? • 2.1 Utilize the principles and practices of choreography to create dance works. • Students can: Use the elements of dance (space, time and energy) to create a dance • Inquiry Question: How do choreographers use space, time and energy to compose dance?
Your Task • Create a group of 3. • Research the elements of dance • Space • Time • Flow • Choose a song that is at least 3:30 in length and is appropriate to display the elements of dance. • As a group, work through the song to count off the beats and note the changes in the music, chorus, etc.
Task • Create a series of dance moves that incorporate space, time and flow and are in synch to the music. • 4, 8, repeat would be 16 counts • Choreograph and record the steps of your “Zumba” routine. • Practice the routine, over and over and over again! • Be prepared to present and lead the class in your routine of Tuesday of next week.
What’s Due? • Create a written form of routine with counts • Create a one page summary of how your routine incorporates the elements of dance. • EMAIL both documents to ckassib@summit.k12.co.us by start of class on Tuesday!
