Before we dive into the ocean zones, we need to locate the 4 major oceans of the Earth!
The biggest of the oceans is the Pacific Ocean! This is on the west coast of the United States!
The next ocean is the Atlantic Ocean The Atlantic Ocean is on the East Coast of the U.S
The third ocean is the Indian Ocean! This ocean is located by Asia and Africa!
The last of the major oceans is the Arctic Ocean! This ocean is located around the North Pole!
Now lets take another look at all the oceans! You will have to identify them next!
Incorrect! Try and remember what country each ocean is located by!
Now that you know all the major oceans, we are going to look at the zones of the ocean!
Sunlit Zone • 0-700 feet • This zone receives the most sunlight. • Common animals in this zone are seals, sharks, and sea turtles. • This is the top zone of the ocean
Twilight Zone • 700-3,300 feet • Located below the sunlit zone • Only dim light reaches here • No plants grow here • Animals that live here include jellyfish, octopus, and squid.
Midnight Zone • 3,300-13,000 feet • Receives no sunlight • Some animals that live here are the viperfish and angelfish.
Abyss • 13,000-19,000 feet • Often used to describe the deep sea in general • Creatures who live here have no backbone and include sea spiders and blind shrimp.
Hadal Zone • 19,000-36,000 ft. • Usually deep water trenches and canyons • The water temperature is barely above freezing • Still some animals live here, including sea cucumbers.
