  3. Context • The most challenging financial climate in living memory. • Seeking to run counter to the recessionary culture. • Growth budget set to fund missional projects and new youth and student workers. • Amazing provision in 2008 of a substantial gift that provided confidence to stretch ourselves. Thank you Lord! • Cash position allowed us to do roof repairs and other longstanding maintenance issues. • We’ve got nearly £38k unrestricted cash at the moment plus just over £5k in the building fund.

  4. Headlines • Unrestricted income to the end of August was £139, 374. • Worse than budget by £11,253 (7.5%). • The growth budget / missional projects offering of £4,254 was better than budget of £4k. • Tithes are £9,683 worse than budget (8%) and the last few months have seen substantial reductions. • Unrestricted cash deficit is currently better than budget by £1,081, though partly accounted for by the timing of payments. • If income does not improve, there could be a deficit on normal running costs of £10,000 - £15,000.

  5. The Pattern of Income

  6. Challenges for our community • The income pattern is short of our aspirations. • We want to fund missional projects – both those already in place and those yet to come. • We do not want to cut wages of those who tirelessly for our community or cut budgets for the work we do. • We do not want to focus on finances to the detriment of our calling as a church. • We want to trust in God’s faithfulness and provision. • We must remain good stewards of the Kingdom finances. • We want to have confidence to meet other challenges in the future.
