Background • National Screen & Sound Archive of Wales: • NSSAW recording TV & Radio broadcasts since 1991 • Collection of recordings from 1982 • Related to Wales and Welsh interests. • Examples are S4C programmes, Tiger Bay, Jonathan, Newyddion, Badell Aur etc
The ‘old’ system • Equipment: • Bank of VHS Recorders • Efficiency: • Staff intensive • Quality of recordings – not good
The ‘new’ system • Tender: • Nov 2006 out to tender • PVR – use of Personal Video Recorder • Equipment: • Box of Broadcasts, by CIS • Contains 6 Digital and 2 analog tuners • Imagen Client – allows user to select programmes • EPG data used to produce Atom feed data • Recording live data since Sept 2007 • Efficiency: • Automatic – though will require limited User intervention • Up to 32 Gbytes a day currently
Ingesting • Virtua: • Atom feed used to produce MARC records • Atom feed is validated • Backlog from Sept 2007 • 32 records loaded so far • Vital: • METS records ( data from MARC) • MediaInfo also used to produce METS – provides technical metadata • Provides access to actual Offair Recording mpgs
