Slide 2 • Use your textbooks to record the main function of the urinary system on the back of the urinary system sheet.
Slide 3 • Check your answers using the following slides.
Slide 4 Functions of the Urinary System • Filters blood to remove wastes, toxins (chemicals that are poisonous), and excess water from the body.
Slide 6 2. Diagram of the Urinary System Get a diagram of the urinary system. Color Code the four main parts of the system (kidney, ureter, bladder, and urethra). Fold four sheets of paper in half. Label each sheet with one part of the system.
Slide 7 On the inside, describe the main job of that part within the system Glue the label part next to the part on the diagram. See picture to the right.
Main Parts Slide 8 • Kidneys – main organ, filters the blood to remove excess water, and urea (waste products). These are eliminated as urine.
Main Parts Slide 9 • Ureters – tubes that connect each kidney to the bladder
Main Parts Slide 10 • Bladder – organ that stores urine until it can be released, contains smooth muscles
Slide 11 Main Parts • Urethra – tube through which urine passes before it is removed from the body
3. Foldable Create a foldable showing how the urinary system works with other systems to remove waste from the body Slide 12 What other systems work with the urinary system? Circulatory Muscular Nervous
Working with other systems? Slide 13 • Works with the circulatory system to clean the blood. Circulatory system picks up waste products from the cells in the body and takes it to the kidneys. Kidneys then remove the waste from the bloodstream.
Working with other systems Slide 14 • The muscular system works with the excretory system by helping the bladder hold/store the urine until it can be released from the body. Smooth muscles are located in the bladder.
Working with other systems Slide 15 The nervous system is notified when the bladder is full and sends a signal to eliminate that waste.
