Ocean rocks and magnetism Ocean ridge rock samples are younger than deep-sea trenches. The magnetic pattern on one side of the ridge is a mirror image of the patter on the other side Isochron maps show us that young ocean floor crust is near the ocean ridges
Seafloor Spreading • Ocean crust is formed at ridges and destroyed at trenches • Each cycle of spreading and magma intrusion results in new ocean crust forming.
