  8. Abigail – a victim or a perpetrator? Recall those who sat around you during the debate… Locate a planning partner who shares similar views on the subject. Together search the textbook for textual evidence to support your arguments.

  9. Sample Quote Thesis statement Abigail is a victim because she’s an orphan who has not been protected, a victim of statutory rape, and her name is being slandered in the town. Quote to support thesis: Abigail even has to defend her honor with her uncle, who is supposed to be her protector, because he too accuses her of being dishonorable when he says, “I have given you a home, child, I have put clothes upon your back – now give me upright answer. Your name in the town – it is entirely white, is it not?” (p. 1131-32) Remember your OER strategies!

  10. Abigail – Victim or Perpetrator? With a partner who agrees with you on the issue, do the following: Find textual evidence from the book where Abigail says or does something that reveals whether she is a victim or a perpetrator. Find textual evidence from the book where other characters say something to or about Abigail that reveals whether she is a victim or a perpetrator. Find textual evidence from the book where Abigail’s thoughts or actions reveal insights to her motives or values. Be sure to write down all quotes that support your claim, why it’s important, and the page numbers. You can paraphrase as needed.
