This Class Notes 6 covers various types of complex inheritance including incomplete dominance, codominance, multiple alleles, polygenic traits, and sex-linked traits. Learn about the blending of traits and why males are more likely to be colorblind.
E N D
I. Incomplete Dominance • When neither trait is dominant. • Result is a blend of both traits. • Ex: white (rr) x red(RR) = pink (Rr)
II. Codominance • When both traits are dominant • Result is that both traits show Ex: brown x white = brown spotted
III. Multiple Alleles • When there are more than two alleles of each trait • Ex: Rabbit fur color has four alleles for one trait
IV. Polygenic Traits • When more than one gene is in charge, so inheritance rules are very complex. • Ex: Eye color and skin color
V. Sex-linked trait • When a gene for a trait is located on the X or Y chromosome. Ex: Colorblindness is on the X chromosome. *Why are males more likely to be colorblind?
