  1. Paper 1: Situational Writing • Identify Genre (Letter/Report) • Identify Tone (Formal/Informal) • Highlight the answers/Write the key terms (key points to the pointers) • 3 paragraphs to your letter/report (first sentence/paragraph to state purpose of writing, second paragraph to focus on answering the pointers and third paragraph to conclude the letter/report: look forward to/hope you find the information useful/etc.) • Follow the phrasing of the pointers to reduce language errors

Paper 1: Situational Writing Points to note for Situational Writing • What do I need to write? • Refer to Question and identify what you are required to write (Email/Letter/Note/Report/Etc.) • What is the tone of my writing? Formal/Informal • Informal writing is used when we write to someone close or whom we are familiar with. • Include comments such as: Hi! How are you? • There is no need to include ‘Re:’ • Formal writing is used when we write to someone in authority/position or about a serious matter • You must include ‘Re:’ • After the introduction, include the purpose of the writing: • I am writing this letter/email/note/report to …. • Start introducing the points required. Follow the structure of the pointers.
