  3. What is World Music? • Sub-genres include: world fusion, global fusion, and worldbeat • Technology and globalization have made it easy to access music from around the world

  4. India • Made up of folk, popular, classical, and R and B • Music spans thousands of years • Source of spiritual inspiration, expression and entertainment

  5. Instruments Sitar: • Plucked stringed instrument • Made popular by Ravi Shankar • Used in most traditional Indian music

  6. Instruments Tabla: • 2 drums played together • Played by striking the skins with fingers and the hand • Invented in India in 200 BC • Present in most traditional Indian music

  7. Australia • Music created by the Aborigines • Forms an important of their social, cultural, and ceremonial traditions
