  2. Honour their worlds! • How do we honour their worlds without using racism or generalizations? • Is labeling music bad? What labels can we use to avoid racism or ignorance?

  3. Definitions of World music • …as a product of a particular people, society, geography, and time. • …as the “music of the Other”. • … as a result of musical interaction between cultures. • …as a marketing tool. • … as a philosophical concept (Universal Language).

  4. WWM? • Which world music definition would CP support? Any of the above, or a definition of your own?

  5. … • Assuming that “World music” can be learned through conversation and that studying it broadens the students’ views of the world…

  6. Music Education is Empowering • How can we empower students in a multicultural society?

  7. Music Education is Transformative • Is it okay for a teacher to be ignorant to start out? Does the teacher always have to be the all knowing presence in the room?

  8. Music Education is Political • Discuss the differences and similarities between monoculturalism, multiculturalism, interculturalism and Transculturalism, and how power is effected by these different views within the classroom.
