  5. The Regulatory Body • CNCAN is a legal entity and institution of national interest funded entirely from its own income being in coordination with the General Secretary of the Government • Presently, CNCAN should decrease the staff expenses with 20 %

Regulatory Body Staffing and Training • Numbers of Staff : 136 • CNCAN established a training programme and an in-house training programme across all Divisions • Insufficient staffing in different Areas considering the regulated installations • Insufficient skills on radiation protection in new practices: cyclotron & CT PET in nuclear medicine practice, permanent implant in brachytherapy, screening in mammography and so on. • Proposed Actions for training of CNCAN staff: New comers: fellowships, Regulators: workshops organized at CNCAN headquarters or scientific visit

Notification - Authorization – Licensing - Inspections strong points of the regulatory body activities in this area • the system of authorization-licensing & inspection is established and is effective and efficient • CNCAN is improving and upgrading data base of the national Registry of radiation sources and doses the weak points of the regulatory body activities in this area • Needs for improvement of assessment and inspection process by upgrading the procedures • Insufficient continuous training on radiation protection and safety of qualified experts, recognized by CNCAN • Proposed Actions for training of CNCAN staff: workshops organized at CNCAN headquarters or scientific visit • Proposed Actions for training of qualified experts and of RP trainers: training courses organized in Romania
