Vegetation • Both Priddis and Bearspaw are significantly affected by SO2 pollution relative to the control as determined by Si/So ratios • Bearspaw is the most affected by sour gas emissions according to isotope data • Priddis is more affected by environmental stresses as indicated by histochemical analysis and visual damage
Precipitation • Rural sites had higher deposition of sulphate. • Nitrate does not vary with the degree of urbanisation. • Sulphate at Carsland primarily derived from industrial emissions. • Sulphate flux greatest in SE Calgary.
N-Alkanes • No significant difference between flaring and non flaring events may indicate that: • particulate n-alkanes transform into more complex molecules • Or particulate n-alkanes were fully combusted in the flare
Perceived Health Effects • In general, Priddis residents show a greater concern and take more action towards the sour gas issue • Significant correlation - Priddis & Bearspaw: level of concern level of importance - Bearspaw: level of concern perceived health impacts
LEGAL ISSUESReport of the Provincial Advisory Committee Advisory Committee • Representative cross section of affected interest groups • Critical in approach • Outlines a plan of implementation • EUB compliance critical Recommendations • Restructuring of the hearing process • Improved industry and public interaction • Better enforcement and more audits • Public education on sour gas issues
