Introduction: What is MedPost? • Medical & Casualty Management Command Post • Tool to be Used Primarily by a Municipal Level Medical Officer Of Health (MOH) to Monitor and Alert the Community with the Flexibility to be Used at the Provincial or Federal Level Should There be a Large Scale Event • A Centralized System that will Facilitate Automatic and Manual Collection of Data from Existing Hospitals and Movement of Data as Quickly as Possible from the Patient Level to Medical Community Decision Makers

Introduction: Why MedPost? • System Requirements Based on Gaps and Lessons Learned from 2003 SARS Outbreak • 2003 Outbreak Illustrated Gaps in Information Flow Within Canadian Health Care Information Management Systems • SARS Commission Report • Problem 15: Overwhelming and Disorganized Information Demands • Problem 16: Inadequate Data • Problem 17: Duplication of Central Data Systems • Problem 18: Blockages of Vital Information

Impact on Canada’s Ability to Respond: Improved Response • High Quality Information Output that will Directly Impact and Improve the Quality of Decision Making made by the MOH and Potentially Other Levels of Government Including Politicians • System that will be Compatible and in Conformance with Existing and Future Provincial and Federal Health Information Systems.

Expected Usage - Scenario Once MEDPOST is in Place, if an Emerging Disease Investigation like SARS or a CBRN Event Occurs MedPost, with One Standard Data Interface to any Canadian Treatment Centre, will Provide a Single, Central, Effective, Accessible Data Source for Key Crisis Medical Information. This Information will Enable much more Timely Sharing of Information, Aiding Rapid and more Informed Assessment and Incident Management. During SARS Timely and Detailed Information was in Short Supply, Making Decision Making more Intuitive Rather than Fact Based.
