Explosion • Incident ~ an explosion occurs in an urban environment. There are believed to be many casualties. Line of sight to the incident is obstructed by partially standing buildings which may further collapse at any time. Intel leads us to believe the cause was a dirty bomb. • UAV mission ~ i) aid Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team with reconnaissance from an elevated position using the onboard video camera. ii) Carry up a dosimeter (the size of a small pager) to determine the presence of radiation.
Search and Rescue • Incident ~ there is a missing person in a known general location obstructed by light tree cover • UAV mission ~ aid ground search from an elevated position with a thermal imaging camera.
Hazmat release • Incident ~ a tanker truck (or train derailment) has occurred. The position of the vehicle obstructs the view of the vehicle placard indicating the hazardous material in question. The unknown material is limiting the responders’ ability to approach the vehicle. • UAV mission ~ from an elevated position, use the onboard video camera to observe the vehicle placard.
Water rescue • Incident ~ a group operating a watercraft has crashed into a tour boat holding many people. Individuals are thrown from the vehicles on impact. Both boats begin to sink. • UAV mission ~ from an elevated position, use the onboard camera to aid in locating missing persons.
Large fire • Incident ~ a very large fire has torn through a group of homes and threatens others. The fire has also spread to an adjacent forest. • UAV mission ~ to aid the incident commander in decision making by providing live video from an elevated position.
Chemical/Biological release • Incident ~ there has been an intentional large release of chemical and/or biological agents. • UAV mission ~ with appropriate instrumentation onboard, to confirm or refute the location and strength of the plume based on our computer modeling.
