What does this mean for my child? • Pre-school and Primary • Modest curriculum changes • More emphasis on active engagement in learning • Literacy, numeracy and aspects of health & wellbeing responsibility of all • Fewer outcomes, broader levels • Learning more relevant and in context • Profiling of achievement

  8. What does this mean for my child? Pre-school and Primary (cont) • ‘Space’ to broaden and deepen learning balanced against progression • Assessment more 'valid' and 'reliable' and as part of learning • Better continuity pre-school to P1 and P7-S1 • Focus on transferable skills

What does this mean for my child? • Secondary • More significant change to curriculum structure • Separate Literacy and Numeracy qualifications • Greater focus on learning across the curriculum not just in discrete subject areas • interdisciplinary learning (linking learning) • personal achievement • the school and community

  10. S1-3: broad general education • All eight curriculum areas • Time allocation similar to present • No start to certificated courses • Most pupils working at a level equivalent to S Grade general by end of S3 • Point of choice in S3 for senior phase

Secondary (cont) • S4-6: Senior Phase • Fewer courses in S4 than at present • National 4 and 5 replace S Grade / Int 1 & 2 from 2013/14 • New and revised National Qualifications more skills based and less prescriptive • Access and National 4 internally assessed and externally verified by SQA • National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher externally assessed • Collaboration with partners to maintain and extend range of options for progression
