Introduction • John P Hoyt FACHE, FHIMSS • Executive Vice President of HIMSS • Responsible for HIMSS Analytics • Previously: COO, CIO, IT Consultant • What is HIMSS Analytics? • A not-for-profit subsidiary of HIMSS dedicated to providing comprehensive healthcare data, analysis and research to lead health transformation through effective use of IT • Collects data related to IT product deployment and plans for deployment, IS department composition, costs and management metrics, healthcare trends and purchasing decisions • Support HIMSS Advocacy role, Thought Leadership, Research
HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model • Eight stage model (0 to 7) that tracks how hospitals adopt IT towards a paperless medical record • Stage 7 verification is a site visit by two CIOs and a CMIO – spend all day at the hospital • Visit nursing units to verify Closed Loop Medication Verification, Nurse charting, CPOE, physician documentation • Visit Pharmacy for order verification, bar coding, packaging • Visit Radiology for filmless verification • Visit ICU, ED • Visit HIM • 59 Stage 7 hospital in the US, 1 in Korean, 1 in Germany • Secret fact: At the HIMSS annual confernce ……. • Some example of success from Stage 7 hospitals
