Turkish Statistical System and TurkStat Centralised with specific task distribution to other institutions Main Actor: Turkstat, producing more than 85 % of all statistics organised under Prime Ministry Other Actors: Ministry of Finance, Central Bank, Undersecretariat of Treasury and other Ministries and institutions having administrative registers or databases serving statistical purposes

Dissemination and Database • 57 main statistical databases were disseminated dynamically in TurkStat web pages for all users. (http://www.turkstat.gov.tr/jsp/duyuru/upload/vt_en/vt.htm) • National Data Release Calendar (for every official data, not only produced by Turkstat, but also for other public institutions) • All publications in Turkish and English. • Classification Server • Classification server is available on web site of TurkStat. • (http://tuikapp.tuik.gov.tr/DIESS/ChangeLocaleAction.do?dil=en)
2. Recent Works • Official StatisticsProgramme (OSP) & Strategic Plan (SP) • Current Official Statistics Program and Strategic Plan has been prepared for 2007 – 2011 (division of work among institutions in Turkish Statistical System). • The studies for second planning period for OSP & SP (2012-2016) have been initiated in 2010 in coordination with relevant institutions and organizations within the Turkish Statistical System.
Quarterly National Accounts Revision studies of GDP based on 2005 by production, expenditure andincomeapproaches are going on. New classification is NACE Rev. 2. • Comprehensive revisions of Turkish National Accounts System • Base Year 1948 ( Published in 1950 ) • Base Year 1968 ( Published in 1972 ) • Base Year 1987 ( Published in 1993 ) • Base Year 1998 ( Published in 2008 ) • Population and Housing Survey • Population and Housing Survey will be conducted in October 2011 in line with EUrequirements with the combined method (by using population registersand byconducting register based large-scaled sampling survey).
3. International Cooperation Activities of TurkStat Realized in 2010 and 2011 • World Statistics Day • World Statistics Day was celebrated under the auspices of United Nations on 20th October 2010. • In this context, a conference was organized under the headlines as “Statistical Registers in the History of Middle East and Turkey” and “World Dynamics, Statistics and Decision Systems” at TurkStat. • A web-site dedicated to this event (both in Turkish and English) was createdhttp://www.turkstat.gov.tr/digEn/dig.html • World Statistics Day will be celebrated on 25th April of every year which is the establishment date of TurkStat.
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS TurkStat implements bilateral technical cooperation programs in order to exchange the technical expertise on the various statistical subjects with • Caucasian, • Central Asia, • Balkan, • Middle East • some African countries in general with the financial support of the Turkish International Cooperation Agency (TIKA).
Technical supports between 2005-2011 • 38 consultancy services were provided in abroad, • 70 TurkStat experts carried out the consultancy services, • 58 training programs were organized at TurkStat, • 254 experts from beneficiary countries attended to the courses, workshops/seminars, on-the-job training programs organized by TurkStat.

Technical Cooperation in 2010-2011 • Palestine Statistical Office • 8 experts from Palestine, Ankara, • Subjects: “Communication Technologies”, “Agricultural Statistics” and “Tourism Statistics” • funded by Turkish International Cooperation Agency (TICA) and World Bank • Turkmenistan: • 6 TurkStat experts,in Ashgabat • Subjects: Three training programs namely “International Classifications”, “Annual Business Statistics” and “Tourism Statistics” • funded by TICA
Technical Cooperation in 2010-2011 • Egypt - 1 expert from TurkStat, in Egypt Subject: Consultancy service on “Sampling of Child Labour Surveys” funded by ILO • Moldova - 5 Moldovian experts, Ankara Subject: Training on “Classifications” funded by TICA,
Technical Cooperation in 2010-2011 Tajikistan: • 20 experts from Tajikistan, 3 training programmes in TurkStat Subjects: “Publication Standards”, “Environmental Statistics” and “Population Statistics” funded by TICA and World Bank • 2 experts of TurkStat, Dushanbe Subject: Consultancy service on “Computer Technologies and SPSS Software” funded by TICA • 1 expert of TurkStat, in March 2010, Dushanbe Subject: Consultancy service on “Statistical Quality” funded by SESRIC
High-level Bileteral Meetings in 2010-2011 • “Population Census and related information technologies”, high level executives of Statistics Indonesia visited TurkStat in 2010 • “2000 Turkish Population Census and Planned 2011 Turkish Population Survey”, “Migration Statistics” and “Information and Communication Technologies”, Directorsfrom Bosnia and Herzegovina visited TurkStat in 2010. • “Environmental Statistics, Indicators and Accounts”, high level executives of Iraq visited TurkStat in April 2011.
