  1. The Good & The Bad A presentation by Chua Jun-Yi, Celeste (U050739U) & Ong Xin Ke, Jasmine (U051490R)

  2. The GOOD poster Abandoned at an early age, Oliver Twist (Barney Clark) is forced to live in a workhouse lorded over by the awful Mr. Bumble, who cheats the boys of their meager rations. Desperate yet determined, Oliver makes his escape to the streets of London.

  3. 1.Gestalt Principles • Figure and Ground • Good spatial interaction. • Good contrast between background and figure • Figure has more details than background.

  4. 2.Visual Harmony • Equilibrium through asymmetrical balance. • 3.Colour • Green: life, nature, youth, vigor, hope, cheerfulness, peace abundance, immortality

  5. The BAD poster!!

  6. 1.Frames 2 distinct frames: one top-right, one bottom-left. -Both depict same girl but from different movie scenes. =>lack of continuity 2.Visual imbalance Left side looks cluttered and heavy whilst right side of picture shows credits placed in a negative(white) space.

  7. 3.Lacking in Attention -Pictures look haphazardly scattered. -Movie title placed midway of poster => flow of attention is from top-left to white space, then jumps to middle-right then bottom-left. 4.Color contrast -Letters H and G of the title, “The Harvey Girls” do not stand out clearly. -Name of the actress is bigger and clearer than the title.

  8. 5. Gestalt Principle-Closure The various frames of pictures reflect -a lack of closure -depict three different scenes -different focus points -no definite suggestion regarding what the movie is about

  9. -THE END-
