2. Our Mission The Jeanie Schmidt Free Clinic is committed to providing comprehensive, quality, health services for uninsured low-income patients through dedicated volunteers.

4. Clinic Services • For Children Temporary non- emergency care including school and sports physicals, medications, flu shots, and return visits with a medical provider. • For Adults Primary medical care for hypertensive and diabetic adults including medications, preventative and diagnostic screenings, laboratory testing, specialty care and repeat visits with a medical provider. Eligibility- qualified patients have non insurance and a household income of 200% or less of the poverty level.

7. Impacting Patient Lives The whole experience (at the clinic) has made such an impact on me that, until this day, I still carry the clinic ID I was given at the time in my wallet as a 'good luck' charm and a reminder that good people are out there all the time! - JSFC patient

Clinic Accomplishments 2009-2010 • Joined Connections for Hope in new clinic location at service center January 2010. • Created formalized intern program including partnership with Exxon Mobil. • Launched We Can and Parenting program in Children’s Services. • Passed or met standards for quality care in INOVA International Diabetes Project. • Implemented electronic medical records program for free clinics.

Compelling Reasons to Give • Over 2000 at-risk individuals screened for high blood pressure each year in the community. • Volunteer support leverage every staff member with a 5-1 ratio. • Applications for service for JSFC have grown by 50% over last year. • The number of patients JSFC serves is directly related to funding for medical professionals and physician volunteers.

15. Connections for Hope Clinic relocates to service center in January 2010 as part of “Connections for Hope” with expanding clinic space and new partners including: Reston Interfaith, Just Neighbors, Literacy Council of NVA, Vecinos Unidos

17. What Does Health Care Reform Mean to JSFC • Health reform legislation is not scheduled for implementation until 2014 and even when the full implementation is complete (2019), free clinics will remain necessary for America’s uninsured! • Signs indicate that some 23 million Americans will still lack insurance in 2019, after key provisions of the law have been in effect for as long as five or six years, according to a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimate. • The bill expands Medicaid to 133% of the federal poverty level. (JSFC Serves Individuals 200% of poverty level. •  Implementation (i.e. health insurance requirements for all legal Americans) will start in 2014 and the expectation is that full implementation will take place in 2019. • No public option is included in this bill. • The bill restricts access to health insurance through the Health Insurance Exchange to U.S. citizens and legal immigrants. • Individuals will be allowed to opt out of health care coverage and accept a sliding scale penalty.  -   • Small employers are exempt from mandatory coverage.
