Collective Nouns • A COLLECTIVE noun is a noun that names a group. • EX: team, staff, faculty
Compound Nouns • A compound noun is made up of two or more words. There are THREE types. • A COMBINED word is when two words are put together as one. EX: birthday • SEPARATE words are two words that are separate, but go together as a noun EX: New York • HYPHENATED words are two words with a hyphen between them EX: eighty-two + = HANDBOOK
Common Nouns • A common noun names any one of a group of persons, places or things.
Proper Nouns • A PROPER noun names a specific person, place or thing. • EX: United States of America
Concrete Nouns • A CONCRETE noun names a person, place or thing that can be perceived by one of the five senses. • Ex: Dog • You can TOUCH the dog, SMELL the dog and HEAR the dog.
Abstract Nouns • An ABSTRACT noun names an idea, a feeling, a quality or a characteristic. • Ex: Love, hate, beautiful, intelligent
