3D INSPECTION SYSTEM FOR MANUFACTURING QUALITY CONTROL (Inspector 3D) State of the art Metrological measurements are a key step for the quality control of a manufacturing process. Nowadays, coordinate measuring machines (CMM) or 3D scanners are used. However, CMM have the limitations of acquiring a low number of data points and low acquisition speed. On the other hand, 3D scanners take the 3D position in space of a very high number of points on a surface in a very short time, but require quite large installations and a significant amount of manual post-system processing. The aim of Inspector 3D project is to obtain a flexible and cost-effective metrological solution able to be integrated in the production line and to get accurate 3D measurements in 100% of the manufactured products. Technology Inspector 3D is a system based on computer vision and close-range photogrammetry techniques that allows the extraction of 3D coordinates of key points from 2D images taken with digital cameras. From this set of images, “ortho-images”, that represent a orthogonal projection of the object extended with color and texture, will be produced. The main innovation of the this system is the 3D spatial restitution of the essential geometrical characteristics or points of the object in cycle time. • BENEFICTS: • Record of key of points • Acquisition and computation on cycle time • Automatic system. No human intervention • Low cost solution • Standard components • User-friendly GUI Funding Inspector 3D is being developed in the framework of a project approved in MANUNET transnational call 2010 Budget: 948 k€ Duration: November 2010 – November 2012 Contact: inspector3d@metria.es Partners Celje, april 2011
