PERSONAL WATER CRAFT-PWC • PWC’s are powerboats designed to be operated by a person sitting, standing, or kneeling on the vessel rather than inside the vessel. • PWC are deemed an inboard boat. • PWC are pushed through the water by the action of a water pump driven by the engine known as jet drive. Jet drives may also power larger vessels. SAILBOATS • Sailboats vary in different sizes and shapes but mainly consist of four components: • The hull carries the passengers and supports the rigging • The rigging included the shrouds, lines, sails, and masts, booms, etc. • The keel or centerboard is attached to the bottom of the hull to off set the wind on the sail to prevent roll over. • The rudder is used to steer the sailboat and is controlled by a tiller or steering wheel.
MAKE YOUR OWN BOAT!! • Fold a piece of paper in half, from top to bottom. • Fold the right corner into the middle of the paper. • Fold the left corner into the middle of the paper. • Fold the bottom of the paper up against both sides. • Insert thumbs into bottom to make a square. • Fold the bottom corners over each other thus creating a triangle. • Insert thumbs into bottom to make a square. • Hold the paper with flaps down. • Fold the corners to the top point. • Pull the middle out to form a square. • Two triangles are at the top. • Pull them apart to create your paper boat. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M70OikC96fY
