The European wide cooperation framework on nowcasting involving 24 European national weather services and additional participants aims to enhance nowcasting capabilities through improved coordination, observational exchange, and tailored products for end user needs. Managed by ZAMG, the first phase (2013-2014) focused on feasibility studies, joint developments, and NWP enhancements, with a second phase planned until 2017. Outcomes include the 1st European Nowcasting Conference and ongoing activities to advance nowcasting techniques and systems.

EUMETNET Nowcasting Activity • Activity within the EUMETNET Forecasting Programme • first phase from January 2013 to June 2014 • Investigating feasibility of nowcasting cooperation within EUMETNET • requirements of joint developments on nowcasting systems • second phase thereafter until the end of 2017 • developing a framework of near real-time observational exchange • short-range NWP developments for a better capability in nowcasting • tailoring nowcasting products for end user needs • ZAMG as Coordinating member with the support of KNMI
