  3. Group Assignment • Audience • Counter Arguments • Strong stance/Thesis to support • Visual Elements: As a group, search for or create visuals that will strengthen your argument/weaken the opposition. Will present via powerpoint w/presentation • Full outline of argument on powerpoint

  4. Focus of argument • Bad: “Violence in the media is a bad thing. My audience is all people who watch TV” • How do we narrow this down? • Good: “Portrayals of media violence are harmful to children under five years old. As a solution, all violent television should be limited… Audience: Concerned parents.”

  5. Homework Assignment: • Review fallacies & logic - deductive and inductive. Go back over Schwartzberg article and identify FOUR logical leaps that she makes and TWO possible fallacies. • Why? You will want to USE these logical leaps and deduction in your argument - it takes stats a step further. • Read “Visuals” in CILCTE

  7. Today’s Exercise: Web Work • Analyze your websites for the elements discussed on the analysis webpage. Look at all elements of argument/rhetoric, including any fallacies, logical & inferential leaps. Write appropriate analysis on a web page, with a link to the site - one page for each site. • Grab a picture from each site and insert on the corresponding page. Find another image that COUNTERS the image from the advertiser’s site. Explain what your choice proves. • Make a link to each page from your homepage

  8. Reminder: • Draft of individual essay & Info for your group argument so you can work on your powerpoint presentation.
