Functions • Controls the telephone switchboard • Transfers calls from outside and within the hotel • Wake up calls • In some hotels, this is computer operated. PBX will set the wake up call, and a computer will ring the guestroom • May provide basic hotel information such as directions, address, etc.
Job Requirements • Excellent phone skills • Articulate
Personality Characteristics • Positive and clear phone voice • Task oriented • Enjoys talking • People skills are minimal…no actual guest contact other than by phone • Ok with no physical activity
Dress Code • Usually casual or business casual • Well groomed • On smaller properties, PBX may be handled by a front desk clerk, and then that uniform would be required.
Wages • Average is $22,000/year • Approximately $10/hour • Entry level position averages $8.00/hour • Management positions are usually salaried.
