  3. How Do I Apply for Federal Student Aid? • File the FAFSA or add UAlbany code 002835 (www.fafsa.ed.gov) • Send in any requested documentation • Accept your award – MyUAlbany (www.albany.edu/myualbany)

  4. Financial Aid Programs • Direct Unsubsidized Loan (DUL) • Direct Grad PLUS Loan • Graduate Fellowships, Assistantships, and Tuition Scholarships • Alternative/Private Education Loans

  5. Direct Unsubsidized Loan (DUL) Process • Accept your loan on MyUAlbany • Complete Entrance Counseling (www.studentloans.gov) • Complete Master Promissory Note (www.studentloans.gov)

  6. Considered “independent” if enrolled in graduate program • Must be admitted to degree program • Must be registered half-time, or 6 credits • Up to $20,500 maximum Unsubsidized Stafford • 5.41% fixed interest, 1.072% loan fee. • *Rates subject to change on or around July 01, 2014

  7. Federal Direct Grad PLUS Process • Must file FAFSA and accept DUL • Students may apply for the difference between the cost of attendance and other aid received • Students must be credit qualified and registered at for at least 6 credits • Entrance and MPN unique to Grad PLUS • 6.41% fixed interest rate, 4.288% loan fee. • Apply at www.studentloans.gov • *Rates subject to change on or around July 01, 2014
