Harbor Castings, INC. President & Owner: Chuck Lane
History • Harbor Castings' history goes back to the early 1960's, when brothers Karl and Josef Feist started Supreme Mold and Die, Inc., at the corner of Strausser St. and Supreme Ave. in North Canton, Ohio. Karl's invention of an investment-cast slide retainer for plastics injection molding led to the startup of an investment casting foundry, KoveCastings, Inc., on the same site in 1974 • Kove's business flourished until 1991 when a combination of economic factors led to its being put up for sale late in that year. • Harbor Castings was incorporated in January 1992 by C. Richard Lynham to buy Kove's assets, and began operations on the 21st of that month. The assets included Kove's customer list and open orders, and from that base Harbor has grown and prospered. Most importantly, Harbor was able to hire most of Kove's former employees, and thus keep intact the production, engineering, and administrative talent. To this day the dedication and abilities of those people account in large measure for Harbor's success, and its bright future. • By the last year of the second millennium, Harbor's fortunes had improved to the point that it could look seriously at the acquisition of another foundry to fuel its growth. On June 30 of 2000, Harbor purchased the assets of Mastercast, Inc., in Muskegon, Michigan. Although Mastercast was in bankruptcy, its manufacturing operations remained profitable, and its ability to make larger parts, its spacious and modern physical plant, and a substantial customer list, made it a natural fit with Harbor's other operations.
