Patients and family members lack effective ways of communication if not present Pradnyesh Gore(HCI-CS) Mandar Samant( CS) Asmita Karandikar( CS)
Problem statement • There is a lack of personal connect between the patients and the family members • The emotional connection between the family and the patient cannot be neglected. • Family members cannot remain by patient bedside always and might be subject to anxiety and stress
Questions that we can associate with this topic • How long do the patients stay in the hospital ? • What is the frequency of visit of close family ? • What about family members who are on the move / working and wish to be present with the patient ? • What about patients who cannot actively participate in communication with family? • What about infants who , even if fully concious , cannot initiate communication with the family members ?
Communication Means • Patient initiates communication with family members The patient is fully conscious and can initiate a communication channel with the family . • The family members initiates communication The family members can start the communication without the patient being actively involved or accepting the communication commencement
Patient Initiative • The patient can enable or disable communication means depending on his or her level of comfort. • The patient can request a interaction session with his or her family members. The family members should be able to take part in this interaction virtually irrespective of where they are.
Family Initiative • The family members should be able to view the patient even if the patient is in no way able to accept or initiate interaction with the family. • The family members should be able to do this ,again irrespective of their location (even if they are not physically alongside the patient, or even in the hospital). • This is the problem that is being focused on and explained in detail in further slides .
Solutions • Install internet camera in Patient’s ICU room • 24/7 live streaming • Family members can view the patient even if patient is not able to initiate communication
Solutions • Web camera installed in each patient’s room. • Family members will get secured access to view patient live. • Family members can start interaction with patient whenever they want. • Family members can use laptop, mobile device or iPads to communicate with patient • Communication is possible even if family members are travelling.
