Exercises to reduce cravings • Recognize pain as a feedback • Examine the experience of craving • Reflect on the costs of craving • Recognize underlying thoughts and beliefs • Indulge an attachment • Frustrate an addiction (Essentials Spirituality book)
Recognize the pain as a feedback: From my research in Essentials of Spirituality • Benefit • It helps to recognize an attachment that opens many new possibilities • In my personal life I will be able to take another look at the situation when I am hurt in some way and find what attachment it is rooted in . • Thus, it will benefit me to know what attachments are causing me pain • Challenge • Letting go of an attachment that may be causing the pain • In my personal life it will be a challenge to let go the attachment once I figure it is causing me pain • It will be hard to let it go, which will create the challenge.
Examine the experience of craving :From my research in Essentials of Spirituality • Benefit • When analyzing a situation that I am craving something, it can help weaken the craving. • By examining the craving and understanding it, would help me to eventually relinquish the craving. • With having a clear picture of my cravings it will benefit me to be able to weaken them. • Challenge • When experiencing a craving and going through all the emotions that I would be feeling would be exhausting to go through. • It would be a challenge to experience this exercise and try to analyze all my emotions to help detach the craving. • Thus, It would be hard to go through all of the intense emotions connected with my cravings
Higher Motivations:From my research, MITA’s Five Steps website • From my research I have learned steps to use for higher motivations • (1)Question possibilities, (2)target improvements, (3)expect quality, (4)move resources, (4)reflect on growth possibilities • Reflecting on these steps I have realized how I have used them in my life • They have played an important role in my life • I use all steps in my education, and work hard and reach my goals and targeting my improvements to do the best that I can do • Also, I use these steps and look in the past to help me in the present and further learn for the future
Addiction in society: From my research of a Share care website • Addiction is affecting our society negatively • From my research I see that drug addition is affecting our society mostly because these people loose control, and cause harm on others, such as crime. • Also, I learned, “According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the overall costs of substance abuse in the United States exceed half a trillion dollars, including health and crime-related expenses as well as losses in productivity”(How Much Does Addiction Cost Society?).
Closing • To summarize the learning goal the main points from this learning goal are: • How the exercises can help eliminate cravings that have benefits and challenges • How higher motivations can help me in all areas of my life using the past, present, future • How addiction is loosing control in our society and to be aware and stay healthy from those dangerous cravings.
