  1. LEARNING THROUGH TECHNOLOGY ASSISTVE TECHNOLOGY Gillian Vaughn

  2. Assistive Technology Any device that assist with the learning process of students with learning disabilities. This device does not have to be electronic, or technologic. It is important to understand that the device can be as simple as a pencil grip yet as complicated as power driven as a wheelchair. Educators are surprised to learn that anything that will assist students in their learning is given the title assistive technology.

  3. Alabama Ethics ofAssistive Technology Standard 4: Teacher/Student Relationship: Fulfilling the roles of trusted confidante, mentor and advocate for students’ growth. Creating, supporting, and maintaining a challenging learning environment for all students. Alabama states that teachers are responsible for the “what ever it takes” attitude for students. Many times students can fall through the cracks. Students are to have a voice and that should be their teacher. According to Alabama ethics teachers should create and maintain a challenging classroom Students should be able to learn and the teacher is committing an unethical act if that student does not have their needs met. While the classroom teacher must notice, request, and prove this child needs assistance. Thus the use of TST, data, and parent involvement is an answer to increase assistive technology.

  4. Hearing Impaired Assistive Technology Devices • Infrared systemsuse infrared light to transmit sound. A transmitter converts sound into a light signal and beams it to a receiver that is worn by a listener. The receiver decodes the infrared signal back to sound. • Personal amplifiersare useful in places in which the above systems are unavailable or when watching TV, being outdoors, or traveling in a car. About the size of a cell phone, these devices increase sound levels and reduce background noise for a listener.

They must be felt within the heart." -Helen Keller
