  2. DNHC MANDATE “ The DNHC acts as a forum for discussing and addressing radiological emissions from local nuclear facilities and their potential impact on health and the environment.”

  3. DNHC CREATION In 1992, Ontario’s Environmental Assessment Advisory Committee recommended the Durham Nuclear Health Committee be established. In 1995, after thorough consultation, the Council of the Regional Municipality of Durham created the DNHC

  6. DNHC MEETINGS The DNHC meets 5 times a year. Meetings are held alternately at: • Durham Region Offices • Pickering Nuclear • Darlington Nuclear

  7. PURPOSE of the DNHC Review, discuss and improve the public’s understanding of radiation and its related human health effects from nuclear facilities

  8. PURPOSE of the DNHC Address questions and concerns raised by its members and the public through continually monitoring and reviewing current issues affecting nuclear facilities (NGSf) in Durham Region

  9. Role of Public Members DNHC members are available to attend meetings or to communicate with other groups to address their concerns

  10. Issues Reviewed by the DNHC Radiological environmental monitoring results from studies conducted around Pickering and Darlington

  11. Issues Reviewed by the DNHC Groundwater investigations for tritium conducted at Pickering and Darlington NGS

  12. Issues Reviewed by the DNHC Seismic investigations conducted around Pickering Nuclear and Darlington Nuclear

  13. Issues Reviewed by the DNHC Environmental assessment process for short-term nuclear waste storage at Pickering and Darlington NGSf

  14. Issues Reviewed by the DNHC Nuclear Waste Management Organization investigation of long-term nuclear waste storage options

  15. Issues Reviewed by the DNHC Low-level nuclear waste investigation for long-term clean up at the Port Hope and Port Granby nuclear waste management facilities

  16. Issues Reviewed by the DNHC Restart of 4 reactors with new mandatory safety features at Pickering NGS

  17. Issues Reviewed by the DNHC Testing for tritium in Durham Region drinking water to validate publicly reported levels

  18. Issues Reviewed by the DNHC Proposed international fusion energy research and development project for Clarington by ITER Canada
