From the TAP Report: Rationale for an Emphasis in Early Childhood Education
From the Commission : Early Childhood Education Task Group:Collect and analyze comprehensive information on national trends in early childhood education and preparation as well as on other states’ approaches to early childhood licensing and credentialing and report to the Commission on its findings at the December 2013 meeting.
Policy question: What is the appropriate preparation and certification for early care and education teachers?
Goals/Objectives of the ECE Stakeholder Task Group: Discuss what the field wants Understand credentialing process Develop compelling information to provide to the Commission Outline potential steps to develop credential Other?
Who/What is the Commission?http://www.ctc.ca.gov/commission/default.html • The Commission is • An agency in the Executive Branch of California State Government • Fifteen voting members and four ex-officio members • Appointed by Governor Brown • Three major responsibilities– credentialing, discipline, standards and accreditation
Purpose of Accreditation • Accountability – to the public and to the profession • Ensure High Quality Programs • Address Continuous Program Improvement • Adherence to Standards
Biennial Reports Site Visit Program Assessment Are Common Standards and Program Standards implemented in an integrated, effective manner? Are programs aligned with standards? Accreditation at a Glance Are programs effective in preparing competent educators?
