2. Introduction • Animals are all around us. • Different animals need different habitats. • Many animals eat different things and are categorized under different names. • Some animals are becoming extinct today because of pollution and deforestation • Some say that there are about 3 million different types of animals in the world. • What animal would you like to become an expert in?

3. Task • Working with a partner, you will research one animal of your choice. • Every person will become an expert on their animal. You will have time in class to visit different websites to find information. • You will need to find the different facts out about your animal listed on your graphic organizer. • After you have collected all your information you will check with the teacher to make sure information is correct. • Working with your partner, you will make a poster to present to the class. • This poster will present all the information you have found on your animal. • Each poster should be colorful and represent your animal in the best way possible. Each poster should list at least five facts from your graphic organizer. • During presentations, it is your job to ask at least one question to a presenter about their animal.

6. Habitat Is what kind of environment they live in Habitats can be very different in size, from a small pond (for a tadpole) to an entire forest (for an elk). No matter what kind of animal you're talking about, its habitat must have four essential things: Food  Water Cover Space Example: Clown Fish can be found in salt water Range Is where on the earth can you find your animal. Range is more characterized by the limits of a habitat where the animal might be found. Example: Horse and sheep can be found in Western North America What’s the difference between Habitat and Range

Classification/Similar Animals This is the group of things your animals falls into In order to study living things, scientists classify each organism according to its: Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family Genus Species Example: Mountain Gorillas •KINGDOM Animalia PHYLUM Chordata CLASS Mammalia ORDER Primates FAMILY Hominidae GENUS Gorilla SPECIES gorilla & beringei Population Status Is the percentage or number of how many of you animal are left in the world This will help you to find if your animal is endangered or not Example: Mountain Gorillas 2,500 remain in the wild, and only a few dozen live in the world's zoos. 8. Size/Life Span This is where you will tell me how big or small you animal can get. You will also find the average age the animal can live to Example: Mountain Gorillas can be up to 250-300 lbs and 5-6 feet tall. Life span is about 25-30 years Diet What does your animal eat? 9. Birth Fact Give at least two facts you find out about your animals birth Example: Mountain Gorilla Mothers give birth every 3 to 5 years. Movement Adaptation How does your animal move? Social/Instinct/Learned Behaviors List something your animal has learned through the years to help that animal survive in the wild/ Example: Mountain Gorilla Can climb trees and stand walk on two or four legs. Evaluation • Graphic Organizer filled in with correct information: 60% • Poster: 30% • Group Presentation: 5% • Question asked to expert: 5% • Make sure to prove that you are an expert for you group. • Also remember you need to ask at least one question to another expert as they present. • This presentation is meant to be a learning experience about the many different types of animals their are.  Make sure to be respectful to other.

13. Conclusion • GREAT JOB! You are now an animal expert.  • You have completed your WebQuest successfully. You will now be able to take this information with you on your journey through life. • I hope you have enjoyed learning about the many different types of animals your classmates researched. • What was your favorite animal that was researched? • What animals from our presentations, will be extinct in 100 years? • Lets talk about the many different animals we saw!

Students also are able to see the wealth of information on a certain topic and how to become an expert. • It is important to have student check in with information, so you as the teacher are aware of where they stand and in the process of the project.
