Summary • A fire was caused metres away from Newtown station disrupting train services on the first day after the Chinese new year break. • It was caused by a short circuit • It led to a two hour halt to MRT services in the morning rush, affecting an estimated 15,000 commuters • Luckily there were no injuries.

  3. My opinion • I think that there must have been a failure of fire safety standards and with the system getting old with wear and tear, more stringent checks should be undertaken.
