Good Character • Pay Debts (Eph. 4:28) • Tell the Truth (Eph. 4:25) • Care For Others (Matt. 22:39; Gal. 6:10) • Husband > wife and children (Eph. 5:25; 6:4) • Wife > husband and children (Titus 2:4-5) • Employee > employer (Eph. 6:5-7) • Employer > employees (Eph. 6:5-7) • Neighbors (Lk. 10:36-37) • Abstain From Evil (1 Thess. 5:22)
Centurion’s Character • “Enemies” spoke well of him • And when they came to Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying that the one for whom He should do this was deserving, "for he loves our nation, and has built us a synagogue." (Luke 7:4-5) • Friends who helped him • Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, "Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof. (Luke 7:6)
Centurion’s Character • Concerned About A Slave (Luke 7:2) • Then He also said to him who invited Him, "When you give a dinner or a supper, do not ask your friends, your brothers, your relatives, nor rich neighbors, lest they also invite you back, and you be repaid. "But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind. "And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just." (Luke 14:12-14)
Centurion’s Character • Humble (Luke 7:6-7) • For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. (Romans 12:3) • Begged, Not Demanded, Christ To Come • Generous (Luke 7:5)
Centurion’s Character • Good Reputation From Outsiders • Friends Willing To Help • Caring • Humble • Not Demanding, Not abuse His Authority • Generous
Centurion’s Faith • Where did his faith come from? • So when he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to Him, pleading with Him to come and heal his servant. (Luke 7:3) • So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)
Credible Witnesses • Prophets • And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place… (2 Peter 1:19) • Apostles • This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. (Acts 2:32) • Miracles of Christ • And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. (John 20:30-31)
What Centurion Might Have Heard • Cast Out Demons (Lk. 4:35) • Healed All Who Came To Him (Lk. 4:39-40) • Healed Leper (Lk. 5:12) • Healed Paralytic (Lk. 5:24) • Healed Nobleman’s son (Jn. 4:46) • Many Mighty Miracles in Galilee (Matt. 11:20-23)
Power In The Word • Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to come to You. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. (Luke 7:7) • For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. (Romans 1:16)
Do You Believe Jesus? • "Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins."
