150 Nd Project. Why not 150 Nd experiments so far ?. Bolometers requirements. Nd crystals. Working group’s. Time schedule. Two Crystal compounds. NdF 3. Already tested during the past. 10 g sample. Regarding the NdF 3 we observed the same behaviour observed in the past.

150Nd Project • Why not 150Nd experiments so far ? • Bolometers requirements • Nd crystals • Working group’s • Time schedule Stefano Pirro, IDEA Meeting - Heidelberg October 21, 2004
Two Crystal compounds NdF3 Already tested during the past 10 g sample Regarding the NdF3 we observed the same behaviour observed in the past. A very big heat load/capacity prevents the cooling of the crystal. 16 g sample 200 g sample NdGaO3 Good “theoretical” candidate The small sample was tested at sea level @ Milano-Bicocca and Firenze The big sample was tested deep underground @ LNGS Stefano Pirro, IDEA Meeting - Heidelberg October 21, 2004
NdGaO3 Milano-Bicocca Test PTFE supports 1.3x1.3x1.3 cm3 Stefano Pirro, IDEA Meeting - Heidelberg October 21, 2004
Paramagnetic heat capacitance NdGaO3 Milano-Bicocca Test Final temperature 38.5 mK Stefano Pirro, IDEA Meeting - Heidelberg October 21, 2004
NdGaO3 Firenze Test The main difference was in the choice of the thermal conductance between crystal and Cryostat. The choice was a hard contact in order to cool down the crystal to lower temperatures with respect the ones reached in Milano. Nylon wires 1.5 cm2 thermalization surface Cu-NdGaO3 Mixing chamber Temperature: 20 mK Stefano Pirro, IDEA Meeting - Heidelberg October 21, 2004
NdGaO3 Firenze Test Stefano Pirro, IDEA Meeting - Heidelberg October 21, 2004
NdGaO3 LNGS Test 200 g 3x3x3 cm3 PTFE supports (low conductance) Two different set-up were used Low conductance set-up High conductance set-up Stefano Pirro, IDEA Meeting - Heidelberg October 21, 2004
NdGaO3 LNGS Low Conductance Lowest temperature reached: 58 mK Stefano Pirro, IDEA Meeting - Heidelberg October 21, 2004
NdGaO3 LNGS high conductance After 10 days the temperature reached was ~34 mK After 50 days (now) the temperature reached ~19 is mK We see thermal pulses, but some doubts arise on the identification of particle pulses Stefano Pirro, IDEA Meeting - Heidelberg October 21, 2004
First year Program • Study on low temperature specific heat of Nd compounds ( NdF3 – NdGaO3 ) • Study of bolometric behaviour of NdF3 and NdGaO3 bolometers What shall to be done in the future ? Stefano Pirro, IDEA Meeting - Heidelberg October 21, 2004
Other crystals Several tests were made in the R&D cryostat @LNGS during the lasts months The idea is to move towards a active background rejection Double readout heat - light 100Mo 3034 keV PbMoO4 Nuclei with Q-Value above the 208Tl - line 48Ca 4271 keV CaMoO4 Preliminary results shows that the scintillation of CaMoO4 is a factor 2 larger with respect PbMoO4 Stefano Pirro, IDEA Meeting - Heidelberg October 21, 2004
