  3. Wind Speeds • The maximum winds speeds that the hurricane reached were 175 mph and a minimum central pressure of 902 millibars. Which was while it was over the Gulf of Mexico on 8/28 • Wind speeds were 125 mph when it hit New Orleans. Hurricane force winds extended for 120 miles outward from the center.

  4. Cost The cost is estimated to be 100 billion dollars and increasing.

  5. Statistics • Economist and crisis consultant Randall Bell wrote: "Hurricane Katrina in 2005 was the largest natural disaster in the history of the United States. Preliminary damage estimates were well in excess of $100 billion, eclipsing many times the damage brought by Hurricane Andrew in 1992." • 2nd most intense hurricane to hit the United States • 3rd deadliest hurricane to hit the United States • It was the most expensive hurricane to hit the Untied States • Affected 7 States – Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Kentucky, Florida, Georiga and Ohio • 80 % of New Orleans was under water (flooded) • Most the damage was cause by the storm surge which was 17 to 25 feet • 43 tornadoes resulted from hurricane Katrina
