  2. What do we do? • FAQ’s • http://www.ncne.nlanr.net/faq/index.html • Support for advanced network services. • The Abilene NOC and Qwest get you connected. • We help with follow-on campus issues, both before and after your connection is active.

  3. What do we do? • Training • Like the I2/NLANR Joint techs. • Classes held in Pittsburgh and possibly other locations on topics like: • Configuring and using Multicast • Performance Tuning • High performance network testing and monitoring • What do you need?

  4. Our Approach • Become more familiar with the issues for deployment of each service, by testing and deploying each service “in house”, and with others. • Work and coordinate with the Abilene NOC. • Others encouraged to participate in the testing!

  5. Our Approach • GigaPOP and connectors may be different. • GigaPOPs have deployment issues within the GigaPOP, as well as providing service for their customers. • Different AS’s. • Multicast RP’s.

  6. Our Approach • Start with the more savvy sites for each service to learn the details. • Documenting the missteps of the early folks helps those following avoid the pitfalls!

  7. Our Approach • Help the less experienced sites design their deployment to ensure a smoother and more effective rollout of each service. • And the process is iterative!

  8. Our Approach • Vendor independent, but reality intrudes. • Routers: • mostly Cisco. • Nortel, et al, are coming! • Switched environment much more diverse. • Will require much more work, and help from you!

  9. Advanced Network Services • One or two people (usually different!) actively pursuing each of the following major services.

  10. Advanced Network Services • Multicast • We’re doing mBGP, PIM-SM & MSDP in our production network. • QoS and diff-serv • Lab testing currently under way.

  11. Advanced Network Services • Security • Experimenting with kerberos-to-X.509 certificate sevlets, courtesy of MIT. • IPv6 • Currently have a tunneled connection. • Expect native 6bone connection via vBNS soon.

  12. How can we help you? • Mail to ncne@ncne.org • Creates an entry in our help ticketing system. • Somebody will contact you!
