  3. A case study of innovative technology :The SAGEMOR digital passport : a networking program for marina operators and berth holders • Background : • The passport was created in 1984 by the SAGEMOR, the Conseil Général of Morbihan through SAGEMOR to encourage berth holders movements. Now the passport scheme is widespread in over 40 marinas. • The principle : • The yachtsman declares his cruising periods to the marina. • In return, he doesn't have to pay his stop-over nights in the different members marinas. • The advantage for the marina : • => to know exactly berthing availabilities and how long the berths remains unoccupied. • The advantage for the berth holder : • free stop-overs encouraging him to cruise • new grounds.

  4. The SAGEMOR «passport » concerns 40 marinas and more than 20 000 berth holders

  5. A great success but with limits • A « manual » management system getting heavy • Risks of mistakes and wasting time during invoicing periods • Restrictions for the berth holders who have to declare their cruise during marina opening hours • Rising management costs • Getting bigger and bigger but less and less flexible

  6. The digital passport to meet the following objectives: • widen the marina network and simplify the system • offer more services to berth holders • increase the number of declarations of cruising • open new perspectives / to be in the forefront of technology • lower management costs • improve the monitoring thanks to real time operations

  7. The technical solution A multi access website, an interactive voice server and a web application for 2011 • Targets for the berth holders : • a 24/7 website to declare their cruising periods • a personal space with : • listing of their cruises • Information about their advantages Targets for the marinas : Share information between marinas and yachtsmen to centralise call declarations Collect and sharing of data

  8. The technical solution Communication, promotion, training, hot line Card management • Identify the berth holders • create a berth holder community • Improve the individual relations • inform the yachtsmen • guide them and answer their questions • show them all the advantages of the «passeport escales »

  9. « Real time » tools for a better knowledge of the customer Using data to control the marina waterspace in real time Providing statistics for a better knowledge of the customer profile • Cruising declarations • Free nights taken • « received » passport visitors • Navigation trends and customs • Movement monitoring • Destinations Goal: to offer more services to customers

  11. CONFERENCE INNOVATION FALMOUTH, 12th and 13th OCTOBER 2010PRESENTATION OF JEAN-MICHEL GAIGNEASSOCIATION DES PORTS DE PLAISANCE DE BRETAGNEThe MEPS: A unique boat-lift system for more productive dry stack storage operations Le Crouesty en Arzon, Brittany

  12. ✔The marina of Le Crouestyis one of the largest of Brittany with more than 1400 wetberths. ✔ « Le Port du Crouesty » offersalso the widest range of services includingmanyshipyards, boat dealers, engineers, all sorts of yachting professionals, various hard standing areas, and since 2007, a dry stackstorage unit for 120 boats.

  13. ✔The dry stack storage equipment is operated with a unique boat-lift system, which is almost fully automatic. This system, called « MEPS » meaning « Mise à l’eau en Port à Sec » has been conceived by ACG, a french company based in Normandy, in close cooperation with SAGEMOR, the famous breton marina operator.

  14. ✔This innovative machine is the first one to be established in France. It allows the boats stored on the racks to be driven down to the water in just a few minutes. No need to use the slipway nor your trailer, everything is done by the « MEPS » system !

  15. ✔In 5 minutes, a boat stored on the racks is taken out by a forklift truck and then simply put down on the wooden and plastic cradle of the machine.

  16. ✔Well maintained between the arms of the machine, the cradle slides alongside the quay wall and the boat is gently lowered down to the water, whatever the tide conditions.

  17. ✔The crew, waiting on the dedicated adjacent pontoon, has just to jump on board, and enjoy a wonderful day at sea !

  18. ✔The system has already convinced many berth holders who decided to resign from a wet berth for a dry stack subscription.✔The handling time has been greatly reduced and even if you come back around 6 PM, at peak time, you just have to leave your boat on the adjacent ponton and give the key to the drystack operator who will care of everything.

  19. ✔The system performance allows handling up to 12 boats per hour, which is 3 times faster than in any conventional manner. ✔The maximum size of boats is 7,50 meters long, 3,10 meters wide for a weight of 1,8 tonne, this is to say the characteristics of the most common day fishing-cruising boats or RIBs sailing in the area.

  20. remains at your disposal for further information.

  21. CONFERENCE INNOVATION FALMOUTH, 12th and 13th OCTOBER 2010PRESENTATION OF JEAN-MICHEL GAIGNEASSOCIATION DES PORTS DE PLAISANCE DE BRETAGNE A card controlled access to slipways for trailer boats Perros-Guirec, Brittany

  22. ✔Today, in many ports, the use of the slipways is not free.✔Access to the slipways is often controlled by automatic bollards, or barriers.✔Usually, the boat owners have to go firstly to the marina office, pay a fee, ask for a card or an electronic key to operate the system and return it after use. Sometimes, you even have to wait for a marina bosun to assist you.✔If you’re outside the working hours, you cannot use the slipway !

  23. ✔The town of Perros-Guirec which operates 2 marinas in different parts of its coastline had the problem with its slipways. The development of self-launch of trailer boats and RIBs required a more efficient system to manage the slipway operations.✔The solution: an automatic system working with a simple bank card whatever the time !

  24. ✔You can either use a simple bank card (Visa, Mastercard…), or a privative electronic key if you are a frequent user and have a subscription to the marina services.✔When you leave the slipway after having launched your boat, your car is automatically detected and the hydraulic bollard goes down.

  25. ✔When you pay with your bank card, the terminal gives you a ticket with a code, which is valid for a single or several boat launchings. The terminal is equipped with a GSM chip in order to process the banking operations in real time. It is waterproof and resistant to sea spray. There is a remote control from the marina office in order to monitor the system.

  26. Unless you forget some of the basic safety rules, this system will satisfy you ! Perros-Guirec marina remains at your disposal for further information about this system conceived by:
