Sustainable Communities In Wales, sustainable development means enhancing the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of people and communities, achieving a better quality of life for our own and future generations: • in ways which promote social justice and equality of opportunity; and • in ways which enhance the natural and cultural environment and respect its limits -using only our fair share of the earth’s resources and sustaining our cultural legacy. Sustainable development is the process by which we reach the goal of sustainability (One Wales: One Planet, Welsh Assembly Government, 2009). Sustainable Communities Pathfinder
Sustainable Communities WHO Healthy Cities- a model to build upon? a development activity that seeks to put health on the agenda of decision makers in cities, to build a strong lobby for public health at the local level, and to develop a local, participatory approach to dealing with health and environmental problems. Ultimately, the initiative aims to improve the physical, mental, social and environmental well-being of the people who live and work in urban areas.Werna, E et al., Environment and Urbanization, Vol. 11, No. 1, April 1999 Sustainable Communities Pathfinder
